New US Diabetes Cases on Decline

The New York Times recently reported on findings by the CDC that “the number of new cases of diabetes in the United States has finally started to decline.” According to the CDC, new cases of the disease fell about a fifth from 2008 to 2014.

This is the “first sustained decline” since the disease exploded 25 years ago, which some owe to improving eating habits in the population. For example, according to the article, soda consumption has decreased by a quarter since the late 1990s.

However, according to the article, experts are unsure whether efforts to prevent diabetes are working or if the disease has peaked.
