Eye Drop Refill Legislation Passes Senate Health Committee
AB 1831 has passed the Senate Health Committee, 9-0. Before that, the bill passed the Assembly by an overwhelming margin, 71 to 8. COA and the California Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons are advocating for this bill together to require health plans to cover the cost of eye drops that are refilled early. The bill was amended to reduce the time patients have to wait to get a refill by a couple of days. The author agreed to this amendment because it removed opposition from health plans.
The bill will be heard next in the Senate Appropriations Committee in August.
